Justin Edwards solidified himself as one of the best players in the 2023 class a couple of weeks ago at EYBL Session 1 in Orlando. The five-star recruit walked away from the weekend with a stat line of 19.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. However, his efficiency was the most impressive. He connected on 62 percent of his field-goal attempts and landed 53 percent of his three-point shots.

The 6-foot-7 wing out of Philadelphia (Pa.) Imhotep Institute sat down with On3 to update the status of his recruitment.

Which schools are you hearing from the most frequently?

Tennessee, Auburn, UConn, Kentucky, Maryland, Villanova, and Kansas.

Where have you visited?

I’ve taken official visits to Kentucky and Tennessee, and an unofficial to UConn.

Do you have any other visits planned?

No, not right now.

What did you enjoy about your visit to Tennessee?

It was like a family atmosphere. They welcomed me like I was family and I liked that. I like building connections with the players and stuff. I just like feeling like I’m welcomed.

What stands out to you about Tennesee’s program?

I look at how he (Rick Barnes) plays his wings. Like the past wings that he’s had and the wings he has now, and I feel like he does a good job with them. That’s one of the main things I look at.

What’s the appeal of Kentucky?

It’s a basketball state. Everything about it is basketball. The fans, and everything. It’s all about basketball.

How often do you hear from Kentucky?

Once in the blue, not a lot.

What do you like about UConn?

Coach (Dan) Hurley and coach Kimani (Young) base their team on energy and playing hard and that’s similar to my high school.

Do you have any timetable for a decision?

No, not yet.

Expect a list cut of Edwards’ schools in the near future.
