Earlier this month, On3 updated its class of 2023 player rankings, and Ron Holland shot up to No. 2 overall on the list. Deservingly so, the 6-foot-8 forward out of Duncanville Texas has received double-digit scholarship offers. However, he says five programs are staying in the most contact.

“I’m being heavily recruited by UCLA, Houston, Oregon, Memphis, Arkansas, and my folks have been talking to the G-League,” Holland said to On3 on Friday. “Texas too,” he later added.

Holland is just starting to dive into his recruitment, as he’s only taken two visits; an official to Memphis and an unofficial to Tennessee State. He was scheduled to visit Oregon on March 13th but had to reschedule and has not yet set a new date. Holland also plans to officially visit UCLA on May 12th. According to On3’s Gerry Hamilton, he’d also like to take trips to Auburn, Houston, and Kentucky (interest).

The Texas native’s recruitment is still fully open, and he plans to make a decision towards the end of the summer.

Holland discussed Oregon, UCLA, Kentucky, Auburn, and Houston here.

Holland focused on improvement

“I’m just trying to get better,” Holland said to Hamilton. “I’m not really looking at ranking, but it’s good to have. I am trying to get to that No. 1 spot. I’m working on my all-around game, and trying to be the best player I can be. I’ve improved my offensive game, like a lot. I’ve been working on my handle, jump shot, and making the right reads. Man, I’ve really been working on my jump shot. The improvement I have made is crazy.”

Scouting Report on Ron Holland

“Considered one of the best energy players, defenders and transition players at the power forward position, Holland has shown an expanded offensive game as a junior. The 6-foot-8 prospects out of the Dallas area has a high-end motor, with similar agility, leaping ability and arm length. Holland impacts the game defensively with his length and ability to switch and defend guards in the ball screen game. He’s also continued to be a player that impacts the game as a rebounder, and that includes outside his area. Holland has greatly expanded his offensive game as a junior. He has become a threat to knock down the perimeter jumper, and has become a much more confident player putting the ball on the floor against pressure defense. He has gone from a player with NBA upside as a freshman and sophomore, to one that is a lock to be an NBA Draft pick if he continues to expand his offensive game. Another area On3 has seen improvement is Holland’s maturity on the floor. He’s responding to adversity much quicker from play to play.” – Gerry Hamilton, On3 Senior National Recruiting Analyst
