Denton (Texas) Ryan five-star offensive tackle Ty Haywood has been committed to Alabama since July 14, but Michigan is making a ferocious late push to flip the No. 22 overall prospect.

According to Michigan insider EJ Holland, Haywood will not put pen to paper next week during the Early Signing Period as the Wolverines look to get him to Ann Arbor for a visit:

With Haywood not being an early enrollee, U-M was hoping to push the five-star’s process out to February. Alabama, meanwhile, was pushing to seal the deal in December.

“Haywood is a big Alabama fan. His mother is too. Michigan is pushing hard, the Haywood’s are listening, so we are watching closely to see if they visit,” On3’s Chad Simmons wrote earlier this month.

Haywood discussed his interest in the Big Ten program last week, noting that while Michigan has turned up the heat in its pursuit as of late, there has always been mutual interest between the two.

“I have always had an interest in Michigan, so it’s not like it came out of nowhere. I would say yeah they just backed out when I committed before coming back in,” Haywood told Simmons.

Michigan has picked up some serious recruiting momentum since flipping No. 1 overall prospect and Five-Star Plus+ quarterback Bryce Underwood from LSU. Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines have multiple big flip targets in mind down the stretch this cycle, including Haywood.

As of Nov. 30, Haywood is one of four five-stars committed to the Crimson Tide. Bama has the nation’s No. 2 class, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Michigan now has the No. 8 class with just five days until the Early Signing Period.
