Amare Bynum, from Omaha (NE) Bryan High, is the No. 78 player in the recent 2025 On3 150 update. The 6-foot-8 forward averaged 12.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks while shooting 60.0 percent from the field for his MoKan Elite team during Nike’s 16U Peach Jam.

“I’m a versatile player,” Bynum told On3. “I mean, I can do it all, to be honest. I’ve been getting in the gym, and I can tell with my strength and my stamina this summer. I watch a lot of Jayson Tatum, to be honest. How he gets to his spots.”

On3 caught up with four-star Amare Bynum after a recent live viewing to get an update on his recruitment.

Bynum talks recruitment

“I’ve heard a lot from Creighton, Iowa, Nebraska, and Iowa State a lot,” Bynum said. “I have been busy this summer, so I haven’t looked at setting officials yet.”

Creighton: “They win a lot. They went to the Elite Eight last year. I like their system, they say I fit with my versatility, and they produce players. They space the floor out and move the ball. I took an unofficial visit there. Everyone on the campus is close together, so you can just walk to everything.”

Nebraska: “The program is getting better every year; he’s building it. They like how versatile I am, that I can rebound it and bring it up to start the offense. Most of the coaches come from an NBA background. And Coach Fred (Hoiberg) played in the league.”

Iowa State: “My dad went there. They’re good, they’ve been winning a lot lately; they made it to the tournament last year. And they’re getting players. They bring a lot of energy to the court and play great defense. Their arena can get really loud, with lots of noise. It’s a good atmosphere.”

Iowa: “Most of their players can shoot and run the floor. They like guys who can do it all, to be honest. They like my versatility and think I fit with what they do.”

Bynum’s bloodlines

Amare Bynum’s dad, Omar Bynum, played at Iowa State under coach Larry Eustachy from 2001-2003. Bynum was a 6-foot-7, 205-pound forward who averaged 4.7 points and 3.9 rebounds for his college career. He started 22 games.

At the end of the day…

“I’m going to look at how the coaches, the schools, communicate with me and my family,” Bynum said. “My fit with the program, how they play, and the players who are there, too. I can pass, shoot, dribble, so I don’t want to go somewhere and be put in a box.”
