Branson Robinson is committed to Georgia. The nation’s top running back is now a part of the Bulldogs’ 12-commit 2022 class.

Now what?

Kirby Smart and his predecessor Mark Richt have done their share of landing elite running backs in their time in Athens.

Georgia has landed topflight running backs dating back to Isiah Crowell, who was considered the best ball carrier in the country when he signed.

They have come in pairs since Crowell joined the program in 2011. Following Crowell was Keith Marshal and Todd Gurley.

Nich Chubb and Sony Michel paired up next. Elijah Holyfield and Brian Herrien came in the next wave. The current wave includes highly recruited stars Zamir White, James Cook, Kendall Milton and Kenny McIntosh.

Georgia picked up Lovasea Carroll in the class of 2021.

Robinson is the next in line.

What is Georgia getting in Branson Robinson?

Tons of buzz around the Germantown running back has pointed to a comparison to Chubb.

That comparison may not be too far off, though Robinson could be more Le’Veon Bell than Chubb at the moment.

The two players are built similarly. Robinson carries the same stout, bulky build that has served Chubb well in high college career and early in his NFL career.

Both players have elite burst for someone built like them. They carry a lot of muscle, but a crack is deadly when they pick up steam in the open field. That momentum gives them bowling ball potential in the open field.

Robinson may possess a little more wiggle than Chubb. He has to rely less on his sheer power at the high school level. He has the ability to stop and start his feet before bursting into full gear.

Germantown uses Robinson in a lot of shotgun packages. They run a lot of power and counter plays, which only amplifies Robinson suddenness.

Chubb played in a very different era of Georgia football. The days of straight I formations are fading with Todd Monken at the helm.

Robinson is prepared for the role. He is easily a feature back if he needs to be. The intriguing upside to Robinson is how he will fit in the screen game in a more spread attack playing alongside either Brock Vandagriff or Carson Beck, who both can move around a little more than Bulldog quarterbacks of recent history.

Robinson is in line for a powerful time share.

Milton will be entering his junior season when the Germantown star gets to Athens. White and McIntosh could both still have eligibility left as well to fill out the talent-rich group.

Georgia has already earned the commitment of Jordan James of Oakland High School (Tennessee) in the class of 2022. Robinson and James likely form the program’s pair for this cycle.

Georgia 2023 stars pick up offers

Grayson (Georgia) safety Michael Daugherty picked up an offer from Vanderbilt on Thursday. Daugherty is one of the state’s top defensive backs.

He has offers from 25 schools entering his junior season for the 7A powerhouse.

Kasen Weisman, a quarterback at South Paulding High School, picked up offers from California and Jacksonville State on Thursday. Weisman is a 6’3” 170-pound quarterback with a quick release and mobility.

The California is the first power five offer for the 2023 quarterback.

Oregon jumping into Christen Miller race

Christen Miller of Cedar Grove (Georgia) picked up an offer from Oregon on Wednesday. Miller has been heavily considering Ohio State, Georgia and USC.
