Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury has tested positive for Covid-19, according to the team’s Twitter page. Due to the positive test, he will not be able to coach in Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns.

In his place, defensive coordinator Vance Joseph and assistant head coach/special teams coach Jeff Rodgers will split his duties against the Browns.

The Cardinals are off to one of their best starts in franchise history this season and are the only undefeated team remaining in the NFL. It’s the franchise’s first 5-0 start since they were the 1974 St. Louis Cardinals.

Not having Kingsbury on the sideline is definitely a big loss for the Cardinals offensive attack and quarterback Kyler Murray.

Murray is having one of his best season’s yet and has himself right in the thick of the MVP conversation.

Chandler Jones is also out due to COVID-19

Cardinals defensive end Chandler Jones is already expected to miss the game against the Browns due to a COVID-19 positive test. Losing him is arguably the biggest loss of all, since he’s been one of the most dominant pass rushers in the NFL for several years. He’s already racked up five sacks in his 2021 campaign.

During his first nine NFL seasons, Jones tallied an unbelievable 97 sacks. The gifted pass rusher was a three time Pro Bowl selection (215, 2017, and 2019) and was named a two-time first team All-Pro (2017 and 2019). He’s unquestionably one of the best pass rushers in NFL history.

Other positive tests

Also missing the Browns game for the Cardinals due to positive COVID-19 tests will be: Cardinals quarterbacks coach Cam Turner and defensive lineman Zach Allen.

The Arizona Cardinals will face off against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. EST. The game will be played in Cleveland at FirstEnergy Stadium.
