Foley (Ala.) five-star wide receiver Perry Thompson has been committed to Alabama since last June. As he prepares to begin his senior season, it’s the Crimson Tide’s in-state rivals who are now trending to be Foley’s future home.

Following recent industry updates, Auburn now holds a commanding lead to flip Thompson from Alabama according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM). The Tigers sit with an 87% chance to land Thompson.

Auburn Live recruiting insider Jeffrey Lee logged an expert prediction on Friday for the Tigers to flip Thompson. Lee put in his pick with a confidence level of 75%.

Thompson took his official visit to Auburn and left that trip saying that the Tigers were tied at the top of his list with Alabama. He’s back on campus this weekend for Auburn’s Big Cat recruiting event.

“They are at the top with Alabama,” Thompson told Auburn Live in June. “(Auburn) is up there. They are right there with Alabama.

…The highlights were spending time with Coach (Hugh) Freeze and Coach (Marcus) Davis. Just going through the plays and them showing me how they’d use me in the offense. Them telling me how big of a legacy I could make if I come home.”

The 6-foot-3, 205-pound pass-catcher is the No. 29 overall prospect and No. 8 wide receiver in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 3 player in Alabama.

Freeze could land another in-state win over Alabama

A flip from Thompson to Auburn from Alabama would be another massive in-state win for Hugh Freeze in the last week.

Auburn won out on Wednesday when the Tigers flipped Clanton (Ala.) Chilton County School five-star linebacker Demarcus Riddick away Georgia. They also held off Alabama who ended up in Riddick’s final three.

Recruiting in-state talent has been a strength for Freeze and his staff since coming to Auburn. Of the Tigers’ 12 pledges so far, eight are from Alabama.

The other seven besides Riddick are four-star linebacker Joseph Phillips, four-star running back J’Marion Burnette, four-star cornerbacks A’Mon Lane and Jayden Lewis, three-star defensive lineman Malik Blocton, three-star linebacker D’Angelo Barber and three-star wide receiver Bryce Cain.

Currently Auburn’s 12 commits gives them the No. 16 class in the 2024 cycle. The group also ranks as the No. 8 class in the SEC.
