Baylor is one of the many in-state programs pushing to keep Frisco (Texas) Lone Star four-star wide receiver Davian Groce.

The Bears have had the 6-foot-1, 190-pounder over to Waco throughout his recruitment and Dave Aranda’s staff is in the thick of his process heading into an important summer. On Tuesday, he announced that he’ll be back to the Big 12 program next month.

Groce will take an official visit to Baylor on the weekend of June 20:

The elite pass-catcher has seen a slew of big-time programs get involved in his recruitment. The likes of Texas A&M, Oklahoma, SMU and others have been mentioned as contenders throughout the spring. Groce updated his recruitment with On3’s Steve Wiltfong back in January.

“Who’s going to treat me the best outside of football,” Groce said of what he’s looking for in a school. “That’s what it is. Football only lasts so long. The relationship I can build in the program and outside it.”

Groce is the No. 49 overall prospect and No. 6 WR in the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 7 player in Texas.

Baylor currently has seven commits in its 2026 class, which checks in at No. 33 in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Groce would easily be the highest-ranked recruit in the mix for the in-state Bears if he were to choose the Big 12 program.

Across three seasons at the varsity level, Groce has 2,185 career rushing yards and 24 touchdowns, sa well as another 1,711 receiving yards and 15 more scores.

Scout’s Take on Davian Groce

On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power wrote this of Groce last month as he continues to rise up the 2026 rankings:

“Davian Groce is a true offensive weapon for Frisco (Texas) Lon Star, a high school program that has produced three high draft picks in recent years – Ashton JeantyMarvin Mims, and Nick Bolton. Groce could be next in line. Initially ranked as a running back prospect, Groce looks more like a do-it-all wide receiver at this stage. The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder can make plays on passing game, but can still shift into the backfield and pick up massive gains as a ballcarrier. He’s shown outstanding speed on the track this spring, winning a region title in the 200 meters and posting a personal best of 20.66 seconds – blistering mark that is the fifth-best time in the state of Texas this year.”
