The Boston College Eagles went into the KFC Yum Center and put the nail in the coffin on the Louisville Cardinals regular season. The Cardinals suffered through one of the worst seasons in program history this year, falling to Boston College 67-61 to close out their regular season. The Eagles didn’t pass up the chance to troll Louisville on social media following the win.

Boston College has a pretty decent overall record, 17-14, but they struggled in ACC play with an 8-12 record in conference. The Eagles had three players finish in double figures, Devin McGlockton, Quinten Post, and Claudell Harris, Jr. The trio combined for 39 of BC’s 67 points on Saturday night.

Louisville had two players score in double-figures: Brandon Huntley-Hatfield (14 points) and Skyy Clark (11 points). Boston College shot a bit better than the Cardinals, connecting on 25 of 58 of their attempts (43.1%). They also drilled 8 of their 25 three-point attempts (32.0%).

Boston College led the game 41-31 at halftime. With the win, the Eagles swept Louisville. It was the third sweep of the season for BC in ACC play (Notre Dame, Miami, and Louisville).

There’s been plenty of speculation throughout the season around the job status of Cardinals head coach Kenny Payne. Rick Bozich of WDRB wrote after the game, “Expect a decision from athletic director Josh Heird on Payne’s future soon, perhaps as early as Sunday and certainly not long after U of L exits the ACC Tournament in Washington D.C. next week.”

Louisville will now focus their attention on the 2024 ACC Tournament, where they will be playing in Game 2 against No. 10 seed NC State. That one will be played on Tuesday, Mar. 12. Tip-off time for that one is set for 4:30 p.m. EST.

Boston College will also play in the first round of the ACC Tournament. The tournament begins on Tuesday, Mar. 12 in Washington, D.C. at Capital One Arena and it will wrap up on Saturday night, Mar. 16.

The Eagles are the No. 11 seed in the tournament, and they’ll face off against the No. 14 seed, the Miami Hurricanes. That one will be played at 7 p.m. EST and will be televised on the ACC Network.

If Boston College can win on Tuesday night, they’ll advance to Game 7, where they’ll face the No. 6 seed Clemson Tigers on Wednesday night. That game is slated for Wednesday evening at 9:30 p.m. EST.
