Make that two commits for Jimbo Fisher and Co. on Saturday as 2023 Shiner (Tex.) High four-star safety Dalton Brooks has committed to Texas A&M, siding with the Aggies over Texas, Alabama, Notre Dame, Michigan and more.

While in town for the Aggies’ pool party weekend event, the four-star opted to pull the trigger and join the 2023 class, becoming the first safety commit in the Aggies’ class. Brooks joins La Grange (Tex.) High four-star cornerback Bravion Rogers and Dallas (Tex.) South Oak Cliff four-star cornerback Jayvon Thomas as defensive back commits in the Aggies’ class.

Texas A&M has long been involved in Brooks’ recruitment, and being just two hours from his hometown, the four-star knows the program well. For the four-star, a hard-working culture is important to him, and he’s liked what he’s seen from the Aggies.

“It’s just like down here [in Shiner],” he said. “So, being able to go out there, get it going every day. Knowing it’s going to be hot, knowing you got to come back and do it. They’re going to do that everyday, you can see it.”

Texas A&M made Brooks feel like a priority with consistent communication from multiple members of the staff, including Jimbo Fisher.

“It’s Coach [defensive assistant Bryant Gross-Armiento] BGA, Coach [Jimbo] Fisher, Coach [Tommie] Robinson, everybody connects with me,” he said. “And it’s a great time when we’re on the phone.”

In addition to the consistent recruiting push of the coaching staff, Texas A&M four-star defensive back commit Bravion Rogers has played a key role as a peer recruiter.

“That’s my guy,” he said. “Me and him, we always talk, we text every day. We’ve been friends for a while, good friends at that, so of course he’s [done] his part.”

With Brooks in the class, Texas A&M now boasts the No. 17 class in the country with eight total commits in the class

Scouting report for Dalton Brooks

“Versatile athlete who is one of the more dominant small-town players from the state of Texas in recent years. Stars for back-to-back state champion Shiner High as a running back and safety. Rushed for over 2,600 yards and 39 touchdowns at over 10 yards per carry as a junior. Doubles as a strong track athlete, posting good numbers in several events including the 100 meters (11.15 seconds), the long jump (22-10.25 feet) and the triple jump (45-7 feet). Has a leaner athletic build that has room to fill out nicely at the next level. Smooth runner with easy closing speed to ball carriers. Willing to come downhill and strike as well as cover sideline to sideline in the back half. Flashes the long speed and change of direction necessary to play in the secondary at a top tier collegiate program or as a running back. Will need to adjust to the speed of the game coming from a lower classification, but has the physical tools and inherent skills to make an impact, perhaps early on.

Brooks ranks as the No. 72 prospect and No. 7 safety in the country per the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. The four-star has an On3 NIL Valuation of $151K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
