Buccaneers WR Travis Jonsen was released today after a DUI arrest early Monday morning. Tampa Bay head coach Todd Bowles confirmed the decision earlier today.

Jonsen was reportedly arrested around 3:18 a.m. on Monday morning. The officers involved described Jonsen’s driving as “indicative of impairment”. He refused to take a breathing blood alcohol level test and was subsequently booked right before 5 a.m.. Jonsen was released later yesterday morning after posting his $500 bail.

Later on Monday, Buccaneers GM Jason Licht released a statement regarding the incident. “We expect all members of our organization to uphold the high standards that have been established,” said Licht. “We are aware of the situation regarding Travis Jonsen from earlier this morning and will refrain from further comment at this time while the legal process continues.”

Around 24 hours after that and the 25 year old Jonsen is out of a job and is “no longer with the term” per Bowles.

He isn’t leaving the franchise empty-handed as he won a ring as part of the team that won the Super Bowl in 2020. Still, the Montana State product never saw the field besides preseason contests for the Bucs.

If he were to make a return to the NFL, he would then likely face a suspension from the league for violation of their substance abuse policy.

Jonsen spent two seasons with the Bobcats before going undrafted. Although he played wideout in the NFL, he was primarily a rusher in college. He ran for 726 yards and 13 touchdowns in college. Still, he also totaled 83 catches for 899 yards and two touchdowns as a receiver.
