Can Peach Jam tell us who 2023's NEW No. 1 will be?

When On3’s Joe Tipton broke the news on Twitter Thursday night that 2023 No. 1 ranked GG Jackson was decommitting from North Carolina, the story trended for three days. This decommitment was the action from Jackson that On3 initially broke on July 3. The college basketball world talked ad nauseam about the story because no one else had it. The story of Jackson trended for days, and On3 was the only source of information.

However, with this story breaking, it also means the 2023 On3 Consensus No. 1 player in the class will be moving on. This is the same thing that happened in 2022, as Jalen Duren, Emoni Bates, and Shaedon Sharpe, who all held the No. 1 spot, classified into the 2021 class leaving Kyle Filipowski On3’s No. 1 player in 2022.

While Jackson still has not officially reclassified, as we first reported on May 30 and then again on July 3, that is what we expect Jackson to do in the coming weeks.

GG Jackson has been the only No. 1 player On3 has had in the 2023 class rankings. Let’s explore the players who will be in the conversation for the No. 1 spot in 2023 if GG Jackson moves to 2022.

Five-star CG DJ Wagner

DJ Wagner holds down the No. 2 spot in On3’s rankings and the On3 Consensus. Wagner, the son of former lottery pick Dajuan Wagner, Sr. is a strong-framed and determined guard. He touches the paint at will and plays with a competitive fire on both ends of the floor.

The 6-foot-2 guard from Camden (NJ) High just won a gold medal in Spain for the u17 USA men’s basketball world games.

He has averaged 15.3 points, 3.3 assists, and 1.4 steals per game with the NJ Scholars on Nike’s EYBL Circuit this summer. Wagner is shooting 49.5-percent from the field and 35.8-percent from three in those games.

Wagner is very publicly down to Louisville and Kentucky with murmurs of a possible commitment during Peach Jam.

Five-star SG Robert Dillingham

Robert Dillingham is one of, if not the most crafty scorers in high school basketball. The 6-foot-3 guard from North Carolina, by way of Los Angeles (CA) Donda Academy, has simply made it his mission to step on the court and get buckets.

Dillingham won a gold medal last year for the u16 USA basketball FIBA Americas.

He is averaging 17.9 points and 3.4 assists per game this summer for Team CP3 on Nike’s EYBL Circuit. In 17 games, Dillingham has knocked down 30 threes and is shooting 56.9-percent from two and 83.5-percent from the free throw line.

Dillingham has committed to Kentucky.

Conclusion

This ranking will not be the final one for the 2023 class. On3 expects to have at least two more updates. However, for this conversation, there are really only two players involved. It should be noted that Isaiah Collier would probably be in good standing with this conversation had he not been injured.

At Peach Jam we can expect the unexpected. Going into last year’s event, Jalen Duren was the clear No. 1 guy. Coming out Shaedon Sharpe, who was not in the conversation prior, inserted himself as the clear-cut No. 1. Kyle Filipowski used the week to establish himself as well.

We will see how Peach Jam ends up and how players play in Fall Leagues and in their early seasons to see if anyone else can nudge their way into consideration. But for now, leading into Peach Jam, next week could go a long way for DJ Wagner and Robert Dillingham.
