Chad Henne retires from NFL following Super Bowl victory
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Chad Henne announced his retirement from the NFL following the Super Bowl. The win over Philadelphia was Henne’s second Super Bowl win, both of which came with the Chiefs.
Over the course of his career, Henne played for three teams; Miami, Jacksonville, and Kansas City. He spent most of his career as a backup quarterback, though he did start 54 games during his 13-year NFL career.
Chad Henne announced his retirement with a photo that showed him celebrating with a Bud Light. In his post, Henne wrote, “Calling it a career. Capping it off with @budlight and another ring!”
Chad Henne played his college football at Michigan, where he teamed up with Mike Hart to create one of the best backfields in the country. This led to him being drafted in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins.
In the Divisional Round of the playoffs, starting quarterback Patrick Mahomes went down with a sprained ankle. Backed up on his own two-yard line, Henne led a 98-yard touchdown drive against Jacksonville. It ended up being a key moment in that game and without it, the Chiefs easily could have lost before ever making it to the Super Bowl.
Henne ended his NFL career with 13,290 passing yards, 60 touchdowns, and 63 interceptions.
Travis Kelce dedicated a playoff game ball to Chad Henne
After the Divisional Round win over Jacksonville, tight end Travis Kelce gave Chad Henne the game ball.
This came after Henne led the Chiefs’ offense on a 98-yard touchdown drive, the first playoff touchdown of his career.
“I can’t say enough about Chad Henne stepping up and doing his thing. This ball goes to Chad Henne right here. Henne-thing is possible baby,” Kelce said.
