North Palm Beach (Fla.) The Benjamin School four-star running back Chauncey Bowens remains committed to Florida, but other schools aren’t stopping in their pursuit of him.

And one in particular: the Georgia Bulldogs. The Gators’ SEC East rivals hosted him in January and March for unofficial visits.

And on Sunday, he announced that he will take an official visit to Athens on June 9-11.

The 5-foot-11, 215-pound Bowens committed to the Gators in September 2022 over offers from Miami, Georgia, UCF and a handful of other programs.

Since then, he has skyrocketed up the recruiting rankings and also become one of Georgia’s top flip targets in the 2024 cycle. Kirby Smart and Co. already have a commitment from four-star back Dwight Phillips, but would like to add two running backs in this class. Since Bowens visited in January, RBs coach Dell McGee has been in constant communication and is looking to make a big move early next month when he is back on campus.

“This one has gotten interesting since Chauncey Bowens visited Georgia for the first time in January,” On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons wrote in late March. “Bowens has remained in contact with Dell McGee and the Florida commit is taking a hard look at the Bulldogs. He keeps his recruitment fairly quiet, so it is hard to know just where Bowens stands, but Georgia is considered a threat to Florida for the four-star running out of south Florida. This is one to watch closely.”

Chauncey Bowens is a big part of Florida’s top-five recruiting class

Bowens has the strongest relationships with Florida’s other commits and coaching staff, but told GatorsOnline that the success Georgia is having is hard to turn down.

“It’s pretty hard to deny the two-time national champions,” he said. “And they’ve been sending running backs to the league. That’s their history. That’s something their famous for.”

Alongside five-star Willis (Texas) quarterback DJ Lagway, Bowens gives the Gators one of the best QB-RB duos in the 2024 cycle.

He is the No. 216 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Bowens also ranks as the nation’s No. 17 running back and the No. 32 recruit in Florida.

On3, however, is much higher on him than other recruiting services. In the most recent On300 rankings, he was tabbed as the country’s No. 92 overall prospect, No. 10 running back and No. 15 player in the Sunshine State.
