Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll announced running back Chris Carson will not be ready to go for Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers. Dealing with a neck injury, Carson will miss his fifth game in a row.

“We made the decision we’re going to hold him out this week,” Carroll said on Friday. “He worked hard on Wednesday and Thursday, and we just don’t feel like it’s time yet so we’re going to keep him out.”

Seattle designated Carson to return from the injured reserve but he will not be activated yet.

Carson has not played since Week 4 against the San Fransisco 49ers. On the season, he has rushed for 232 yards on 54 attempts. He has gotten into the endzone three times in four games.

Throughout his career, Carson has rushed for 1,000 yards twice (2018,2019). Last season saw him take a significant drop in carries, only appearing in 12 of Seattle’s games. He ended the year with 681 rushing yards and five touchdowns. He added 37 catches and 287 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

Alex Collins has taken over at running back for the Seahawks, leading the team in rushing yards through eight games with 304. He will continue to get carries against the Packers on Sunday.

Seattle is 3-5 on the season and ranks third in the NFC West. The Arizona Cardinals lead the division, with the Los Angeles Rams just a game behind. San Fransisco has the same record as Seattle but due to head to head, sits in last place.

With Russell Wilson out with an injury, Seattle has relied on the run game in his absence. They are middle of the pack as far as NFL rankings go at No. 14, but Collins is averaging 3.9 yards per carry over the past three games. He ran for 101 yards against Pittsburgh, the third most in his career.
