Cleveland Browns receiver Jarvis Landry and quarterback Baker Mayfield both suffered injuries Sunday against the Houston Texans. The staff at NFL.com provided an update on both injuries following Cleveland’s 31-21 victory.

Landry suffered a knee injury in the first quarter and did not return. Browns coach Kevin Stafanski said postgame that it is an MCL injury and the former LSU receiver is set to undergo an MRI.

Mayfield told reporters that his left shoulder “popped in and out” after making a tackle following an interception. He went to the locker room but ultimately returned to the game and did not miss any time.

The former Oklahoma quarterback finished an extremely efficient 19-of-21 passing for 213 yards and a touchdown. He also added a score on the ground.

Losing Landry would be detrimental to the Cleveland receiving corps. The Browns are already without Odell Beckham Jr., who missed the first two weeks after undergoing offseason knee surgery. Tight end Austin Hooper led the team with five targets, and Demetric Felton had two receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown.

This is a big season for Browns fans. They made the playoffs for the first time in 17 years in 2020. Many believe the team has a chance to make the Super Bowl after losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round last season.

But that path becomes much more difficult without their top two receivers. Beckham will be back at some point this season, but the early reports on Landry don’t sound promising.

Look for Cleveland to lean even more on the backfield duo of Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt. The two combined for 116 yards and three touchdowns in Week 1 against Kansas City.

Mayfield and company will look to improve to 2-1 when they face the Chicago Bears at 1 p.m. ET next Sunday. Hopefully the Cleveland Browns can avoid accumulating any more injuries in that matchup.
