September Recruiting Winners: Texas programs rack up major five-star commitments

The finish line of the 2024 recruiting cycle is in sight, with a little more than two months until prospects can sign with the college football program of their choosing.
At this point in the calendar, the vast majority of the country’s top recruits are already off the board, including 29 of the nation’s 32 five-stars in the On3 Industry Ranking. That comes after three more announced their decisions in September, capping off a monstrous summer of commitments.
As we look toward October and the impending flip season, here are the five programs who made some major headway with their 2024 classes in September.

Only three programs in the country have three or more five-star commits, and Texas A&M joined that group in the month of September. After landing five-star wide receiver Cam Coleman in July, the Aggies beat out LSU, Oklahoma and Texas for Lafayette (La.) Acadiana defensive lineman Dominick McKinley. He adds to one of the best defensive line classes in the country.
At the end of the month, Jimbo Fisher and Co. held off LSU and Alabama for longtime Aggies lean and super-athlete Terry Bussey.
Texas
Commitments: 2
Avg. Rating Per Commit: 93.63
The Longhorns started slow this spring, but have been on an absolute recruiting tear since June 1. The latest additions to class are two big ones — literally and figuratively. Four-star EDGE Zina Umeozulu chose Texas over Oklahoma, Texas A&M and others early in the month and then closed by beating out Oregon and Ohio State for Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei five-star offensive tackle Brandon Baker.

The Sooners built on one of the country’s deepest 2024 classes in September and added to an elite defensive line haul in the process. Five-Star Plus+ defensive lineman David Stone was the big addition in August, and Brent Venables and Co. followed that with four-star EDGE Danny Okoye and four-star defensive lineman Nigel Smith.
Combined with Stone and his IMG Academy teammate Jayden Jackson, Okoye and Smith create arguably the most formidable defensive line class in the country.

The Red Raiders only added one commitment in September to their list, but it was without a doubt the biggest in the program’s long history. Five-Star Plus+ wideout Micah Hudson gave Joey McGuire and his staff the highest-ranked commitment in school history and provided a major spark to the team’s top-25 recruiting class.

The Wildcats are off to a 5-0 start on the season and have as much momentum on the recruiting trail as they do on the field. Four-star twin brothers Jacob Smith and Jerod Smith flipping from Michigan was one of Mark Stoops’ signature recruiting wins over the past few years, and UK added a pair of other coveted three-stars with linebacker Devin Smith and EDGE Lorenzo Cowan.
