When Florida and LSU clinched spots in the College World Series championship series, we all knew a good one was brewing. Two of the SEC’s top programs battling it out, for the second time in seven years, for a national title on college baseball’s biggest stage. Especially since we did not see the matchup during the regular season, the build-up was rather large.

Game 1 on Saturday night did not disappoint, with LSU squeaking by with a win. Cade Beloso played hero, hitting a go-ahead home run in the top of the 11th inning.

LSU was the better offensive team and even with the win, the story of the game was the Tigers now being able to hit runners in. Continually putting the Gators into jams, there was no real breakthrough hit to blow the game wide open. Those in purple and gold will be thankful for Beloso.

As a result, LSU finds itself just nine innings away from another national championship. They will get their first chance at it on Sunday afternoon, with the first pitch from Omaha scheduled for 3 p.m. ET and 2 p.m. CT. ESPN will have the TV broadcast, with Karl Ravech, Chris Burke, and Kyle Peterson in the booth while Kris Budden reports from down on the field.

  • Game 1 – LSU 4, Florida 3
  • Game 2 – Sunday, June 25 at 3 p.m. ET on ESPN
  • Game 3 – Monday, June 26 at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN

In what ESPN has advertised as a full day of baseball on their airwaves, none will be more important than Florida and LSU in the crucial Game 2.

LSU hoping to add another College World Series title

LSU has a total of six baseball national championships in its history. However, they are looking to avenge their most recent — and only — championship series loss in program history, coming to Florida seven years ago.

Head coach Jay Johnson has seen his team be one of the best in the country all year. Florida was the No. 5 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. Now, they are just one win away from accomplishing the season-long goal.

Florida will have something to say about that, though. If it’s up to them, we will be back on the diamond Monday night, playing in a Game 3. The Gators are not going to back down easily, being a proud baseball program of their own.

Buckle up, an exciting one is on deck. And maybe by the time the sun is setting at Charles Schwarb Stadium, there will be a new national champion in college baseball.
