Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy provides update on injured linebacker Anthony Barr

Cowboys linebacker Anthony Barr is set make his training camp debut Wednesday, coach Mike McCarthy confirmed. The news comes a little more than a week after Dallas placed Barr on the PUP list.
“Cowboys LB Anthony Barr will make his practice debut with team this week, participating in individual drills Wednesday and building from there, Mike McCarthy said,” the Dallas Morning News’ Michael Gehlken tweeted.
Barr signed with the Cowboys earlier this month on a one-year deal worth $3 million. A first round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, he brings a veteran presence having spent eight years in the league with the Minnesota Vikings. He has been named to the Pro Bowl four times while recording 495 tackles, 17.5 sacks, eight forced fumbles and five interceptions across his career.
Anthony Barr is set to join a Cowboys linebacking corps that includes: Micah Parsons, Leighton Vander Esch, Jabril Cox, and Devin Harper. Dallas has two more games scheduled this preseason, with one coming up on Saturday against the Los Angeles Chargers. The Cowboys are set to kick off the regular season on Sept. 11 against Tampa Bay.

More on Cowboys signing of veteran Anthony Barr
“Cowboys are signing former Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr,” detailed NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
The Cowboys had been interested in the veteran linebacker for multiple months according to reports, but as recently as last week it appeared that Dallas was not interested in signing him.
However, Executive Vice President Stephen Jones noted at the beginning of training camp that the four-time Pro Bowler was still a player that the team had interest in bringing in. With Dallas having already begun their training camp in full, some believe the decision was made after getting a first look at how their linebackers looked in camp.
According to the On3 Consensus Rankings for the 2010 cycle, Barr was rated as a four-star prospect and the No. 43 overall prospect in America coming out of Loyola High School (Los Angeles, California).
