A few teams in the NFL had statement wins on Sunday, with one being the Dallas Cowboys. Coming off an embarrassing loss to the Denver Broncos, Dallas was able to dish out their own big-time win, beating the Atlanta Falcons 43-3.

Current Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn was facing off against Atlanta for the first time after being fired by the organization in the offseason. Sunday was his chance to get revenge and he delivered with a sparkling performance from his unit.

Quinn commented on facing his old team after the game, having nothing but nice things to say about the Falcons. He said he’s glad he can move on and still is friendly with a ton of people still involved with the team.

“It’s good to have that game done and over with,” Quinn said during his post game press conference. “Many friendships in Atlanta. “It’s the fun part of the NFL. There’s always good rivalries between coaches and players. There’s a lot of guys on that roster and in the building I certainly care about a lot.”

Dallas’ defense showed out for their coach, only giving up three points on the day. Cornerbacks Anthony Brown, Jordan Lewis, and Trevon Diggs all had interceptions to increase the team total to 14, which is tied for second in the NFL.

Dallas Cowboys defense responds to wake-up call

ESPN’s Marcus Spears attempted to give the Cowboys defense a wake-up call this week, saying they needed more than just the turnovers. Getting consistent stops was just as important.

“The biggest issue for them, and we talked about this going into the Minnesota game, I was thinking about, ‘Can they get stops?,’ Spears said Wednesday on ESPN’s NFL Live show. “It’s not about the turnovers, it’s not about the big splash plays – it’s can you consistently get stops throughout the course of a game?”

This was coming off the backs of a 30-16 drubbing from the Denver Broncos. Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater seemed to move the ball up the field whenever he wanted.

In response, Atlanta kicked a field goal on their first possession of the game and was shut out from that point forward. Dallas forced five punts (one of which was blocked for a touchdown) and two turnovers on downs.

Quinn and his team would have enjoyed the win, no matter the opponent. However, being his former team, you know today meant a lot more to the defensive coordinator than usual.
