ESPN has gone through a large series of layoffs to on-air talent in 2023. One of the most notable people to have exited the network for college football fans is David Pollack. A member of the College GameDay crew, Pollack’s departure caught many fans by surprise.

For the first time since that layoff, Pollack has opened up about the experience. In particular, during an appearance on his Family Goals podcast, he explained the conversation that he had with anchor Rece Davis.

“I texted Rece [Davis], and then me and Rece didn’t get to talk until I got to the airport,” David Pollack said. “And that’s when I had some tears. He’s my dude. He’s my guy on the road that we’ve done life together and I trust with him with everything in me. I would consider him one of my great friends and we don’t see each other half of the year.”

It’s pretty easy to see how Pollack and Davis were able to get so close over the years. Being members of the College GameDay crew meant traveling together throughout the college football season. It meant years of working together and gave them time to grow close. That’s also a big reason why Pollack’s exit was so emotional.

Immediately following the layoff, Rece Davis publicly responded to the news as well.

“Class personified. I’ve joked for years that @davidpollack47 is the little brother I never wanted. Truth is, he’s as good a man & as good a friend as I could’ve ever hoped for. He’s a brother to me for life. He’s a man of God. He’s a selfless teammate, an exemplary family man,” Davis tweeted.

“… Tough day. But as he alludes to in the video, who can be against him. (Romans 8:31). And whatever is next for David, he will crush it.”

David Pollack had a message for fans

Following his layoff, David Pollack sent out a brief message to fans. In it, he confirmed the news ESPN had laid him off. He also thanked fans and those who helped him along the way.

“Anything big happen today?” Pollack tweeted along with a video.

In the message, David Pollack admitted that he didn’t know what was coming next. However, he emphasized that he believed there was going to be a next chapter for him, pointing out that he found TV following his career-ending injury.

“I don’t know what’s next, but I know it’s gonna be amazing.”
