Deion Sanders continues to change the game for Jackson State. On Saturday, the charismatic coach was able to sway an SEC tight end to transfer and join the Tigers.

In an announcement on Twitter, former South Carolina tight end Keveon Mullins revealed he’s joining Sanders at Jackson State.

“New beginning,” tweeted Mullins, with a picture of himself and the Jackson State logo.

A former four-star recruit, Mullins was a sought-after recruit before joining the Gamecocks. However, playing time has been scarce, and things haven’t worked out like he thought they would. After just three receptions over his time with South Carolina, a change of scenery is what Mullins was looking for.

Luckily, Mullins joins Sanders and Jackson State as they’re on the upswing. Now, the former Gamecocks tight end has a chance to become a difference-maker for the Tigers. In turn, he can continue to help Sanders build his program up, and find even more success.

Travis Hunter gets the headlines. However, it takes more than one star to win in football. Talented transfers from big schools prove Sanders still has the magic touch.

Sanders on the future of Jackson State: ‘Not only do I have to win, I have to dominate.’

Deion Sanders has huge aspirations for the future of Jackson State. In an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, Sanders made a bold statement on the future of Jackson State.

“I’m not looking to tomorrow. I don’t do that right now — I focus on today,” stated Sanders. “On the now. I focus on maximizing the moment, and giving these kids all I have today. Now when tomorrow comes, I’ll concern myself about that. But I don’t look down there. We really focus and dominate today. In the moment.”

Sanders may not be focused of the future at the moment, but others are. As Sanders makes his name as a coach, more opportunities will come his way. Still, he has an answer for those thinking he’s looking for a way to leave Jackson State.

“They’re questioning what’s the build-up, what’s the exit plan, what’s this, what’s that. — I don’t think like that, man,” stated Sanders, speaking about rumors of him looking to leave Jackson State. Not only do I have to win, I have to dominate.

“I take this next phase of my life just like I did the game — I got to dominate this thing. And we’re winning. But we’re not dominating.”

Deion Sanders dominated his first phase of his career — his legendary playing career. Then, he was a fantastic member of the football media. Now, he’s looking to dominate in another act of his life — his career as a coach at the collegiate level.

If the past is any indication, there’s no reason to bet against the man they call “Prime.”
