The DK Metcalf free agency saga is over. He’s staying in Seattle.

Metcalf is expected to sign a three-year, $72 million contract extension with the Seahawks, according to multiple reports. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported $58.2 million of the deal is guaranteed and his $30 million signing bonus is the highest ever for a wide receiver.

Metcalf emerged as a top target in Seattle over his career after the Seahawks drafted him No. 64 overall in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Last season, he totaled 967 yards and a career-high 12 touchdowns. He sat out mandatory minicamp earlier this offseason as the contract dispute went on. Metcalf was holding in amid the contract talks, meaning he reported to camp but wasn’t participating.

Now, the former Ole Miss star has a new contract as training camp gets underway for the 2022 season. He’ll have a new quarterback, though, after the Seahawks traded Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos earlier this offseason.

How DK Metcalf’s contract compares to other wide receivers

Metcalf is the latest NFL wide receiver to receive a big payday. Davante Adams received a huge five-year, $141 million extension when the Green Bay Packers traded him to the Las Vegas Raiders, while Tyreek Hill inked a four-year, $120 million deal with the Miami Dolphins following his trade from the Kansas City Chiefs.

The big domino left to fall is Deebo Samuel, whose situation with the San Francisco 49ers has been fluid throughout the offseason. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Samuel reported to camp and conversations are ongoing.

“The 49ers are trying, and the fact that Deebo Samuel showed up to training camp is a good sign,” Rapoport said. “They’ve had some constructive conversations and we want to talk about money, and when you’re talking about a new potential contract money is important, but there’s a lot of other things in play here with Deebo Samuel.

“His role sounds like it is just as important as money, he did not want to be used 15 times between the tackles this year like he was at times last year, so it seems as Kyle Shanahan mentioned today, that they are on the same page with his role, he will be a receiver with occasional carries, that is what he wants.”
