Saline (Mich.) four-star tight end Dylan Mesman is announcing his commitment on April 28. 48 hours before making a decision, he released his finalists.

Mesman will choose from five programs. They are Auburn, Louisville, Michigan State, Kentucky and Ole Miss.

“It was really tough to get down to five schools,” Mesman told On3. “I thought about waiting a little longer and looking at more schools. But when I thought more about it, now was a good time. The five schools on my list are schools I could see myself at. I love the fit at each and I could see myself in all five of those jerseys.”

The 6-foot-5, 230-pound recruit has taken five visits to Michigan State, where his parents are both alums. Meanwhile, he has seen Kentucky three times, Louisville twice and both Auburn and Ole Miss once.

“All five schools are similar in that they have amazing tight ends coaches,” said Mesman, the No. 382 overall prospect and No. 25 tight end in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking. “They all have systems that I could fit into well as a tight end. Then, they all stand out in their own different ways too. The offenses are a little different, the locations are different. There are a lot of similarities and that is why the five made it. But, there are then small differences and that is leading me to commit to one school.”

Mesman is making two big decisions over three days

According to Mesman, there are good playing opportunities — as well as a chance to see the field early — at each of his finalists. He also felt that the “vibes were good” with each of the school’s coaches.

This spring, Mesman has only visited two of his top five schools. He was at Michigan State on March 18 and Kentucky on April 14. The four-star also went to East Lansing on Jan. 14 and Lexington on Jan. 28.

Releasing his finalists is only one piece of big news for Mesman this week. The four-star is also ready to reveal his college destination.

“It came down to the statistics and what offense would fit what I am looking for the best,” Mesman said. “I want to play in a system that I could get the ball in. That played a big role in this decision. I looked hard at each scheme, I did research on the offensive coordinators and that really helped me decide on my school.”
