Three-sport East Texas star Devin McCuin is inching closer to seeing his recruitment blow up.

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound wide receiver and defensive back is currently racing past defenders on the hardwood for the 24-5 Jacksonville Indians. On the basketball court, McCuin averages around 14 points per game.

It will be on the track this spring that will take McCuin’s recruitment to another level. McCuin touched the 10.5’s in the 100 meters late in the track season before an injury kept him out of regionals, and likely the state meet.

“I’m going to run the 100, 200 and 4×100 this year,” McCuin told On3 Tuesday. “I ran 10.5 something at the district qualifier. I ended up getting injured the next day in the 4×100 and missed the chance to go to state.”

Should McCuin replicate that number with added weight on his frame, his interest will skyrocket.

McCuin attracted more attention in late January

McCuin continued to fly under the radar for the majority of the 2021 football season.

After posting six interceptions and over 1,000 all-purpose yards as a junior, college programs in the Lone Star State had to take notice.

“I have offers from UTSA and TCU right now. A few schools have come out to see me in January. Texas, Houston, Texas Tech, SMU and a couple of others.”

McCuin has been on campus at TCU a number of times with his older brother Deshawn McCuin being a safety for the Horned Frogs. He’s also made trips to check out Rice and UTSA.

After returning to UTSA for a visit March 5, McCuin plans to make a trip to Austin to check out the Longhorns.

“Coach (Terry) Joseph came by the school. Texas wants me to go up there in the spring. They are recruiting me as a free safety. Coach Joseph and I have texted back-and-forth since he came by the school.”

McCuin is receiving interest as both a safety and receiver. TCU offered as an athlete, while UTSA offered as a wide receiver.

Along with growing up watching  TCU and Texas, Alabama and Clemson always grabbed McCuin’s attention.
