LSU head coach Ed Orgeron provided an update on the injured Myles Brennan on Wednesday night.

“I don’t wanna say nothing prematurely, you know he’s just getting over the pain,” Orgeron said. “He’s getting able to where he’s coming back around. Obviously, it was emotional for him. I think they’re going to try to put the pads on him as soon as they can, maybe start throwing the ball in a month or something. I’m not in a hurry. I’m not gonna rush him. I want him to be ready.”

Oregon added that Brennan could be back as early as mid-season and as late as LSU’s open date on Oct. 30 or the game against Alabama the following week. He emphasized the timeline is not definite.

The redshirt junior suffered a compound fracture in his left arm, which is his non-throwing arm, in a freak fishing accident in early August.

Prior to the accident, Brennan was in a battle for starting quarterback with sophomore Max Johnson.

Brennan spent most of last season injured as well

During the third game of the season against Missouri, Brennan suffered an injury that was reported as a torn abdomen. The injury was unique enough that doctors told him at the time they had never performed the surgery he would need before.

“He said I’ve never done the surgery on this, so we’d be naming the surgery after you,” LSU quarterback Myles Brennan said in a Mar. 18 press conference via LSU’s YouTube channel.

Faced with the option to have this surgery or to heal naturally, Brennan opted not to have the surgery.

With the Tigers ready to start their fall training camp on Aug. 5, there was a serious competition for the starting quarterback job at LSU. Brennan had shown his talents in 2020 and was prepared to earn the job back. He stated he felt a return to normal by the end of the 2020 season and felt great going into this year.

Johnson will start for the Tigers against UCLA

After LSU started the 2020 season at 3-5, Orgeron replaced TJ Finley with Johnson. He led the Tigers to two-straight wins with eight total touchdowns. He threw for 435 yards against Ole Miss.

“Myles Brennan and Max Johnson are two championship quarterbacks. Whoever wins is going to do a great job at LSU. It’s going to be a tremendous battle, and we’ll see what happens,” Ed Orgeron said going into this year.

LSU goes to the Rose Bowl on Sept. 4 in a must-win, morale-boosting win opportunity for both the Tigers and the Bruins.
