Elite DB Derek Williams commits to Texas

One of the nation’s best has quickly made up his mind.

The nation’s No. 2 safety Derek Williams has committed to Texas. Alabama, LSU, Clemson, Miami and Texas A&M were also in pursuit of the top-30 player from New Iberia (La.) Westgate, who officially visited The Forty Acres last weekend and was ready to make his decision by the time he returned back home to The Boot.

“Texas has been recruiting me hard since last year,” Williams told On3. “The coaching staff has been on me and they think this 2023 class can have a great season. With Arch committed, they made it easy for me to make my decision.”

“They have been recruiting me hard and it’s been a good thing,” the four-star safety added. “Knowing Arch is going there, texting me constantly about bringing me home, so let’s do it.

Williams is the No. 30 player in the nation on the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
