Elite safety Jordan Smith commits to Georgia: 'I am ready to be part of the red and black'

Warner Robins (Ga.) Houston County safety Jordan Smith has been offered by three dozen schools. Top programs made the No. 75 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking feel like a priority and and one of those was Georgia. He visited the in-state school multiple times over the last year, and on Sunday, Mother’s Day, the four-star committed to the Bulldogs.

“Development played a big role in my decision,” Smith told On3. “Being around a culture where winning and competing is everything meant a lot too. It’s also not too far from home.”

Smith listed Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech and Tennessee as the schools he chose Georgia over. This decision was made over time and he couldn’t be happier about it.

“It was more of a build-up and consistency with being in Athens so many times and seeing not only the way the players are around each other, but how the coaches carry the standard with each other. That was the biggest turning point for me.

“It is like one big machine in Athens. How they operate, how they work… Everyone is tough, everyone works and everyone does their part, so it is a good environment to be in.

“I’m ready to be a part of the red and black.”

Donte Williams was a lead recruiter for Smith. Those two talk ball a lot. Travaris Robinson was also heavily involved, as was Kirby Smart.

“Being that Kirby played defensive back at Georgia makes this even more meaningful,” Smith said. “I have a strong bond with Donte too. It’s something new I learn about the game every time we talk. I have really connected with the whole staff at Georgia.”

Smith will be back in Athens on May 30 for his official visit.
