Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud is one of the most interesting players expected to go in the first round of the NFL Draft. He’s incredibly talented but not without his flaws and NFL Draft experts are looking for a good comparison for him.

One NFL Draft expert for ESPN, Matt Miller, thinks that Stroud best compares to Dak Prescott, the Dallas Cowboys’ starting quarterback.

“Stroud put up big numbers in the wide-open Ohio State passing game (3,688 passing yards, 41 TD throws and six interceptions),” Miller wrote.

“At 6-3 and 215 pounds, Stroud has really good touch accuracy to all levels of the field. He’s also an above-average runner and mover in the pocket when given room to operate. The hardest thing about evaluating Stroud is extrapolating his talent from the Buckeyes’ scheme and figuring out what he can do without that system around him.”

Stroud is one of several quarterbacks expected to go in the first round of the NFL Draft. With the pre-draft process ongoing, the question is simply what order those quarterbacks go in and who they’re drafted by.

Mel Kiper on how the Georgia game helped CJ Stroud

Stroud played an excellent game against Georgia, despite the losing effort. This effort, as ESPN NFL Draft analyst Mel Kiper explained, it boosted his draft stock.

“It did a lot because this was a first time, we saw him deal with adversity. It wasn’t just pitch and catch against Georgia. They were six-and-a-half point underdogs,” Kiper explained.

Mel Kiper has also said that he has heard the least amount of criticism about Stroud. However, neither Kiper nor Todd McShay thinks Stroud is QB1 in this year’s NFL Draft.

“I went with CJ Stroud. Who is the quarterback I saw and heard the least criticism of? It was CJ Stroud.”
