Darius Carr opened many eyes with his explosive play during Session two of the Adidas 3SSB Circuit.

“I am the best two-way guard in America,” Carr told On3. “I’m gonna lock up the other team’s best player, and I’m gonna come down and get buckets if my team needs that; or dish to my teammates. I can do it all, actually. I watch a lot of Ja Morant, his athleticism, and how he finishes around the basket. Anthony Edwards physicality and balance when he attacks the basket.”

The 6-foot-3 guard led the Compton Magic with 16 points in their weekend’s final game. On3 caught up with Darius Carr after that game to check in with which programs are prioritizing him.

“I have not taken any of my official visits yet,” Carr said. “I plan on taking a couple of visits later in the year after football season starts. I’m looking at UConn and Kansas State right now.”

Carr talks recruitment

UConn: “The way coaches are recruiting me, I feel like they really want me. They’re pursuing me. They are guard-heavy and aggressive guards; I feel like I could come out there and help them win instantly.”

Kansas State: “I feel like they really want me, they are prioritizing me, and I am taking that into consideration. They want me to come in and be me, touch the paint and lock up the best player on the opposing team.”

“I hear from Clemson, Mississippi State, and Syracuse a good bit,” Carr said. “But they haven’t offered yet.”

Carr’s take

“I am looking for a family,” Carr said. “If I decide to go to the east coast, that will be away from home, and I want to feel like I am at home, not missing home. The fan base will be huge for me; I want to go to a school that has a good atmosphere.”

On3’s take

Darius Carr’s explosion pops off the page immediately. He is a quick-twitch guard who touches the paint and finishes above the rim with ferocity. His length and pop give him the tools to be a high-end on-the-ball defender. The jump shot is streaky, but he is confident with it, especially off the bounce. He can get to his spots in the mid-range. A score-first combo guard, there is some electricity in his game.
