BELTON, Texas — Elite recruits like Micah Hudson and Bryant Wesco are often the best players whenever they step foot on the field on any given Friday night.

The district clash between Temple (Texas) Lake Belton and Midlothian (Texas) has become a very heated rivalry, one that includes not only star power, but five-star power.

Hudson (Texas Tech commit) and Wesco (Clemson commit) rank as the Nos. 1 and 2 wide receivers in the state for the 2024 cycle, but two of the top five receivers in the country. Also on the field was On300 CB Selman Bridges, the No. 15 cornerback in the On3 Industry Rankings.

The surplus of future Saturday and Sunday talent on the field at Belton Stadium was a theme in this competitive, high-scoring game.

“We played extremely well, one of the best games we’ve had all year, and we put in a great plan for this week,” Wesco told On3 after a three-catch, 112-yard performance in Midlothian’s win.

“It was great to share a field with him,” the five-star WR continued. “I play better with better competition around me. Selman is a great player and he pushed me to play better, too.”

Both receivers saw their fair share of targets and made plays in the process. More on that here.

Hudson turned 11 catches into 141 yards and two 12-yard touchdown grabs. The Texas Tech-bound playmaker was impactful on passes downfield, in space, in traffic and whenever he touched the rock.

“It was fun just seeing how great of a player he is,” Hudson said of Wesco. “God blessed us both of us to come out here and make plays. I played my best every snap, but the outcome didn’t go our way … It was fun (being guarded) by him; it was like going against myself. He’s a good player, and it was fun going against another great player and competing against each other.”

Both five-star receivers found the end zone on two occasions. Only Wesco had the pleasure of playing both ways.

“It was something different,” said Wesco, who not only scored on touchdowns of 11 and 64 yards but saw snaps at cornerback guarding the Five-Star Plus+ WR.

“Micah is a really great player. I guarded him a few times and it didn’t go well. I don’t play DB; it was a contingency plan, but it was good to watch him and get tips from a great player. I watched him and saw some things I can work on and I took the things he did and used it for myself.”
