Former Ohio State star Joshua Perry has hilarious response to Michael Mayer
Notre Dame kicks off its season in the Horseshoe against Ohio State. It’s one of the most iconic venues in all of college sports. However, tight end Michael Mayer doesn’t think of it as an intimidating environment.
“I don’t think it’s any different than the other stadiums we’re going to be playing in this year. To me, it’s like, ‘home game, away game, just go play football.’ I’m not worried about it,” Mayer said.
Michael Mayer really wasn’t insulting Ohio State. He was speaking about his mentality going into a new and difficult environment. At the same time, there is a type of person who would be insulted by that. It’s the type of person who wants everyone to consistently show nothing but respect to their program, or in this case stadium.

Joshua Perry, a former star for Ohio State, responded to Mayer on Twitter in a hilarious fashion for his comments.
“I literally felt the same way about every place I played, except Penn State. Played there twice at night and you gotta get your mind right for that,” Joshua Perry tweeted.
It’s only fair that an Ohio State player would respect Happy Valley. It’s one of the best venues in the country and the Nittany Lion fans can get incredibly loud. Still, the Horseshoe gets plenty loud in its own right, so Mayer does need to be ready.
Ohio State needs to attack Michael Mayer
There isn’t any debate that Michael Mayer is Notre Dame’s best offensive weapon. The big tight end is one of the best in the country and Ohio State needs to attack him when they’re on defense. Jim Knowles, the Ohio State defensive coordinator, knows this and explained the approach.
“So, you really need to have a bigger player,” Jim Knowles explained. “Someone that can get his hands on him early because you just don’t want to let him run free. I mean, everybody needs to know where he is and including the linebackers. You know, even if you’re not covering him, you need to know where he is. So, you can be a factor in defending him.”
