Former South Carolina offensive lineman Sidney Fugar has committed to Baylor, he announced via X on Monday night. A late addition out of the NCAA transfer portal for head coach Dave Aranda, hoping to improve at the line of scrimmage.

The 2023 season was Fugar’s redshirt sophomore campaign, meaning he will have two years of eligibility remaining with the Bears.

Fugar went through the transfer process for a second time in his career. He began at Western Illinois before landing at South Carolina ahead of the 2023 season. Going through spring practice, Fugar eventually played in 10 games for the Gamecocks with four starts.

Three of those starts were at the beginning of the schedule against North Carolina, Furman, and Georgia.

South Carolina gave Fugar a chance to play both tackle positions during his one season with the program. Two of his starts were at left tackle before switching over to the right side. Baylor will have a versatile player on their hands and can decide which side they want to deploy Fugar.

On3’s Pete Nakos previously reported on visits Fugar made during his recruitment. Colorado and UCLA were involved, getting the offensive lineman on campus. Before his commitment, the Buffaloes led according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.

Instead, Baylor emerged victorious and grabbed a versatile player at one of the most important positions on the roster.

Baylor adds commitment from Colton Thomasson

The Baylor Bears have landed a commitment from a talented offensive lineman out of the NCAA Transfer Portal. Last Monday, Colton Thomasson took to social media to announce that he has officially committed to playing for Baylor and head coach Dave Aranda in 2024.

Thomasson started out his collegiate career in Texas at College Station with the Texas A&M Aggies. Early in his recruiting process, it appeared as if there was no other program he had eyes on as he committed to the Aggies early, back in July of 2021, despite being a member of the 2023 recruiting class.

As a member of the 2023 recruiting cycle, Thomasson was a three-star recruit with a recruiting grade of 89 out of Smithson Valley High School, located in the greater San Antonio area. He was the No. 425 overall recruit, No. 31 interior offensive lineman, and No. 73 ranked player from the state of Texas in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
