Texas Longhorn Josh Thompson wowed with his 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine on Sunday. The 6-foot-0 cornerback posted a 4.43 in Indianapolis on his first run. He ran an unofficial 4.48 on his second run.

Thompson is one of just two former Longhorns representing at the combine this week. Joining him is kicker Cameron Dicker.

Thompson, a 2022 Reese’s Senior Bowl participant, played in 45 games at Texas with 22 starts. He started nine games in 2021. However, he missed the remainder of the season due to a leg injury suffered in the Longhorns’ loss versus Kansas.

In his collegiate career, Thompson recorded 108 tackles, 79 solo, with five for loss. A graduate of Nacogdoches High School, he had two career interceptions, including one versus Texas Tech in 2021 he returned 27 yards for a touchdown.

Thompson and Dicker join 33 other invitees who finished their careers at Big 12 schools. Oklahoma led the conference with 11 players invited, followed by Baylor with seven, Iowa State with six, then Texas Tech and Oklahoma State with three. Kansas State, TCU, and West Virginia are sending one player to the combine. No Kansas prospect received an invitation.

Thompson seeks to join the 351 Longhorns drafted in the history of the NFL Draft. In the 2021 NFL Draft, Texas had Sam CosmiJoseph OssaiTa’Quon GrahamCaden Sterns, and Sam Ehlinger selected. Sterns was the last defensive back from Texas selected in the draft. Analysts currently believe Thompson is a late-round prospect.
