Khani Rooths, a 6-foot-8, 195-pound forward from Washington, D.C. ranks as the No. 39 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Consensus.

The On3 Consensus is the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies (ESPN, Rivals, 247Sports, On3).

Over the weekend at Hoophall West in Arizona, Rooths of IMG Academy discussed his game and gave an update on the recruitment process.

Rooths discusses his game

“I defend everything and I take pride in that,” Rooths said. “I can attack the rim well, draw fouls, and get to the line. I’m versatile and can play multiple positions. I want to improve the most with my catch-and-shoot threes.”

Schools involved

Among the schools involved in his recruitment, Rooth says the following schools are keeping in the most contact: Auburn, Maryland, Georgetown, Georgia, Ohio State, and Illinois.

(Of those mentioned, Maryland, Georgetown, Georgia have offered).

So far, the DMV native has made visits to Maryland, Virginia Tech, and Georgetown. At this time, Rooths says he’s not sure which schools he will visit officially.

Virginia Tech: “I like how they have a set. They let their players get off and they are well-coached. It’s a real family atmosphere and that’s what I’m looking for.”

Georgetown: “Their coaching staff is great, I love them. They’ve done a good job recruiting me. It’s really been about the coaches at Georgetown.”

Maryland: “They’ve been having a good season so far and the coaching is great. I’ve gotten pretty close with some of the coaches. It’s close to home.”

Scouting Summary

“Khani Rooths has a lengthy basketball player’s looking frame; very projectable,” On3’s Jamie Shaw wrote. “He is very good in the iso-mid range. He has footwork and touch and an assortment of go-to moves at his disposal. Next up will be continuing to develop the counters. He will need to continue adding strength, which will help him finish more consistently in the paint. The jump shot is inconsistent, but the release isn’t bad. There are a lot of tools there and an athletic, projectable frame that creates a very high ceiling.”
