Raleigh (N.C.) Word of God four-star recruit Isaiah Coleman tells On3 he has committed to College of Charleston.

Coleman, a 6-foot-5 class of 2023 shooting guard ultimately chose CofC over Mississippi State. He also received offers from Auburn, Miami, Maryland, Georgetown, Xavier, and others.

The slashing guard is College of Charleston’s third commitment to the 2023 class, joining James Scott and Mayar Wol.

Coleman, a native of Fredericksburgh, Va., ranks as the No. 57 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies. On3’s evaluators are slightly higher than the industry on Coleman, ranking him 44th nationally in the class.

College of Charleston (CofC) is a part of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). The Cougars are led by Pat Kelsey who became the head coach in March of 2021. In the 2021-22 season, CofC finished 17-15 overall and secured a berth in the CAA Tournament Semifinals for the first time since 2019 in year one.

Coleman on his commitment to College of Charleston

“I want to be different,” Coleman said to On3. “The relationship I have with coach Pat Kelsey is unbelievable.”

Coleman already knows how he will be played at CofC.

“They’re going to want me to play the one mostly, but come off the ball too,” he says.

Coleman has a message for CofC fans.

“Y’all got a good one! Here I come!”

Scouting Summary

Isaiah Coleman has always been an aggressive and athletic wing. He gets downhill in the half-court and finishes in transition. This season Coleman has taken steps in his pace with the ball. He has developed a pull-up jumper and become a threat, with his feet set, from three-point land. Coleman is an instinctive defender, especially in the passing lanes. While he is not an alpha player, his role as a complementary guy leads to wins at the highest level. Coleman still needs to iron out the form in his jump shot, but he consistently scores it and continues adding to his game. – On3’s Jamie Shaw, National Recruiting Analyst
