The decision is in for one of Texas’ best in the 2023 cycle.

Four-star Round Rock (Texas) Stony Point running back Cameron Cook committed to TCU. Texas and Cal were other finalists for the On3 Consensus’ No. 20-rated tailback, who privately gave a pledge to Sonny Dykes and the rest of the Horned Frogs coaches within hours of returning from his official visit last month.

After sitting on his decision for more than a month, Cook is even more confident in his decision. He vividly recalled when it clicked and he wasted no time informing running backs coach Anthony Jones right away.

“When I got back from my official visit I was sitting here thinking and I talked to my parents and I slept on it, and when I woke up in the morning the first thing I did was call Coach Jones and told him about the news,” Cook told On3. “Everyone was so excited and I was on FaceTime with him and the whole staff joined in. The group FaceTime was going crazy.”

“TCU was the place I wanted to spend my next three or four years and I knew it from the visit and even before that,” he added. “As time went on, it got clear that was the place that I wanted to be. The people who really wanted me bad started to reach out more. TCU has been the same since Day 1 when they offered me and they’ve only built it up.”

“When I went on the visit, it set it in stone really,” Cook continued. “Once I committed, it’s been on a whole other level.”

Cook officially visited Fort Worth in June, where the aforementioned Jones meshed with not only the in-state back but his parents as well. Jones was one of several TCU coaches that ultimately played a part in the decision but as a staff, the Horned Frogs made a difficult decision way more seamless.

“Coach Jones has been good for us because I’m a big family guy and if you’re making my mom and dad feel like I’ll be taken care of and that they have nothing to worry about, then that works for me,” Cook said. “That was one of the main factors for me and what made me want to go to TCU the most.”

“One thing they did well made me feel like a necessity,” he continued. “Even before the visit, I’d talk to the TCU coaches every day — not just my position coach, but different coaches and recruiting people and they did a good job making it feel like a place I wanted to be. The people there wanted me, too, and I had relationships I had with everybody, including Coach Jones.”

Cook is the nation’s No. 310 overall player regardless of position on the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
