In September, On3 Consensus four-star George Washington, III de-committed from Ohio State. The 6-foot-2 guard re-opened things the Monday after his official visit to the Buckeyes. Eventual Ohio State commitment Taison Chatman was also on an official visit with Washington that weekend.

Washington is the No. 135 player in the 2023 On3 150. averaged 9.0 points and 0.8 rebounds through six Peach Jam games while shooting 34 percent from the field and 27.8 percent from three.

Washington’s father is an assistant women’s basketball coach at Dayton.

The industry-standard four-star is set to commit on November 1

Washington’s recruitment

George Washington, III completed his official visit to Wake Forest this weekend. He previously visited Michigan the weekend of October 8. Washington has said these are his top two schools.

Sources say that Wake Forest pursued Washington the hardest. They came in multiple times to see him at school and were in constant contact with him. On the visit, intel says that Wake coaches talked about the early playing time available as this year’s starting backcourt (Daivien Williams and Tyree Appleby) are both projected to graduate.

Intel from Washington’s visit to Michigan tells us that Washington and his family were able to see how Juwan Howard utilizes his guards. Howard has had some success with score-first lead guards. Dug McDaniel, who Michigan took in last year’s 2022 class, will be the only point guard returning on the roster next season.

Washington is set to commit tomorrow, so we are officially in the home stretch. The recruiting winds can change direction at the drop of a hat, especially when things are in the final hours. As of pressing ‘publish’ on this piece, however, there is some confidence coming out of Ann Arbor. Keep monitoring as we approach tomorrow’s commitment.

Scouting report

George Washington, III is a score-first lead guard. He is very confident in his ability to shoot the ball, and he does have range that extends beyond the three-point arc. Questions arise about his lack of athleticism and length. Can he consistently get to his shot effectively? Washington’s mechanics do not change whether shooting off the catch or off the dribble, and when given a clean look, he can knock it down. How well does Washington see the floor? He averaged 1 assist to 2 TOs during Peach Jam this summer. Also, given his lack of size and athletics, there are defensive questions at the highest level. Washington averaged close to 24 points last high school season. His dad is a women’s basketball coach at Dayton.
