Greg McElroy has the perfect head coaching candidate for the suddenly open Colorado head coaching position.

With Karl Dorrell fired by the Buffaloes, the Pac-12 program will be on the search for a new leader. Evidently, McElroy believes Colorado should turn their attention to the SEC, looking to pry Bryan Harsin away from Auburn.

“Where do they go from here? Guy that would make a ton of sense to me is Bryan Harsin,” revealed McElroy. “Of course, Bryan Harsin has come under an awful lot of scrutiny with what’s going on at Auburn. Is he in, is he out, how does it all work right there? I don’t know. I can’t answer those things. All I know is that Bryan Harsin can coach football. I know that maybe he may not be the best fit for Auburn, especially those that want to control the program at Auburn. Maybe they aren’t totally onboard with him being the head coach. I know that at Boise State, that guy got it done.

“I feel like at Colorado, they need to become a developmental program. They need to find some diamonds in the rough. Bryan Harsin, over the course of his career, has been able to do that time and time again.”

Of course, Harsin has experience in the region, as McElroy harkened back to the Auburn leader’s Boise State days. Continuing, the former Alabama quarterback continued to make his case, believing the sky is the limit for Harsin if he took over Colorado.

“This hire to me makes a lot of sense, and I think it would be mutually beneficial,” added McElroy. “Bryan Harsin would get a fresh start at a place that might appreciate him, and I think Auburn, of course, who knows what’s going to happen with Auburn as the season rolls along, but we shall see and we’ll monitor that situation closely. But it’s mutually beneficial.

“Colorado gets to start over with a guy that’s had a remarkable run of success at a place that’s a little bit similar, and Bryan Harsin gets a fresh start in the Pac-12, where I think he could become Kyle Whittingham 2.0 if he stays at Colorado long enough. So it’ll be a fascinating journey to watch this coaching carousel, as it pertains to Colorado.”

It remains to be seen what Colorado does, but Greg McElroy certainly makes a fascinating argument for Bryan Harsin to become the man who leads the Buffaloes into a new era.

More on Karl Dorrell, Colorado Buffaloes

Furthermore, immense Change is on the horizon for Colorado football. It all began on Sunday, when Pete Thamel of ESPN revealed some huge decisions of befalling their coaching staff, including the firing of head coach Karl Dorrell and defensive coordinator Chris Wilson, as well.

“Sources: Staff meeting soon at Colorado to reveal staff changes. Defensive coordinator Chris Wilson has been fired. … Karl Dorrell has been dismissed as well,” tweeted Thamel.

It’s been a nightmare 2022 season for Dorrell and company, as Colorado is winless on the season at 0-5. Evidently, Saturday was the final straw for the administration, as the program lost to Arizona by a score of 43-20.

Moreover, Dorrell took over Colorado prior to the 2020 season, following over a decade of holding various roles on NFL coaching staffs. Among them, Dorrell coached for the Miami Dolphins, New York Jets and Houston Texans.

Prior to the Buffaloes, Dorrell had some head coaching experience with the UCLA Bruins, leading their program from 2003 to 2007.

With UCLA, Dorrell was 35-27 as a head coach, including a magnificent 10-2 season in 2005. However, he never reached a similar level of success with Colorado, amassing an 8-15 record over three seasons with the Buffaloes.
