American Fork (Utah) four-star EDGE Hunter Clegg flipped to Utah from Stanford on Thursday night. He was previously committed to the Cardinal since July 18.

Clegg is the No. 197 overall prospect and No. 24 EDGE in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 3 player in Utah.

“After a lot of thought and prayer, I’ve decided that I’ll be flipping my commitment to the University of Utah,” Clegg wrote in a message posted to social media. “Go Utes!”

The 6-foot-4, 235-pound pass rusher is the 18th commit in the Utes’ 2023 recruiting class. Utah’s group currently ranks No. 26 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 3 in the Pac-12.

“… It is pretty close to home, the coaches are amazing guys, and Utah is just a great place,” Clegg told On3’s Chad Simmons on March 8. “The people there are very upfront and have made me feel very wanted.”

How Clegg’s commitment impacts Utah’s 2023 recruiting class

Of the 18 recruits pledged to head coach Kyle Whittingham and his staff, four are four-stars. They are Clegg, Gilbert (Ariz.) Highland four-star offensive tackle Caleb Lomu, Provo (Utah) Timpview four-star offensive tackle Spencer Fano and Granada Hills (Calif.) four-star athlete Dijon Stanley.

Clegg is the Utes’ third commit this month alongside Fano and Mission Viejo (Calif.) three-star wide receiver Mikey Matthews. Additionally, Lomu chose Utah on Nov. 27.

During his recruitment, Clegg has made four visits to the Utes, most recently on Oct. 15. His official visit was on the weekend of June 11.

At the moment, the Utes have commitments from three of the top nine players in Utah in Clegg, Fano and Tooele (Utah) three-star athlete Mateaki Helu. Fano pledged to Utah on Dec. 6 over Clemson, Michigan and Oregon.

Clegg has an On3 NIL Valuation of $17.7K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
