Jacob Lanier averaged 19.4 points while shooting 38.8 percent on 6.1 attempts for the LivOn program on Nike’s EYBL 15U Circuit this summer. The 6-foot-4 guard from Maumelle (AR) High was the circuit’s second-leading scorer

“I can score it a little bit, I can shoot it,” Lanier told On3. “I’m starting to play more as a point guard, be on the ball, and make plays for my team. I got a lot of shots up this summer, and I can see in my game that I am getting stronger. I’m finishing at the basket, getting in the paint, and making plays. LeBron is my favorite player, but I watch a lot of Anthony Black with his ability to facilitate and guard as a bigger guard. Nick Smith too, how deep his bag is scoring the ball.”

On3 caught up with Jacob Lanier after a recent live viewing to talk about the early stages of his recruitment.

Lanier talks recruitment

“Right now, I have ten offers,” Lanier said. “I am talking with Arkansas and Ole Miss to set up unofficial visits.”

Arkansas: “They have had a lot of players come through there; Moses Moody, Nick Smith, Anthony Black. Last year, three of their guys were drafted. Coach (Eric) Musselman is a great coach, Coach (Ronnie) Brewer. I’ll be going there for a basketball game. I’m excited to see the atmosphere and how the coaches and players are.

“I’ve seen them play a few times, for real. They let their guards go, I definitely think I would fit in with how they play.”

Ole Miss: “Coach (Wes) Flanigan is a good dude. He has spent time getting to know us, and I know him personally. We’re planning to go over there for a football game, not sure which one yet. But, I want to get over there and see the facilities, be able to meet the coaches, and see the campus.”

In Lanier’s words

“I want to be around a great group of people,” Lanier said. “Be around coaches and players who do right, and have the same goals as me. I want to make it to the next level. I want to play for coaches who can support me. I’ll be away from home, for a long period of time, so coaches who are able to understand the players and talk with the players will be big for me.

“When I go to college, I want to be pushed. Like I said, I want to go to the next level. So I want to play for a coach that I know can teach me and walk me through stuff, and get me better as a player.”
