Jaylen Cross is the No. 99 player in the recent 2025 On3 150 update. The 6-foot-4 point guard capped off a great summer that saw him go from unranked to the top 100 with a 70-point output. In the championship game of his final travel ball tournament of the season, Cross finished with 70 points before checking out of the game with four minutes to go. He made 12 threes in the game.

“I’m overall a team player,” Cross told On3. I’m a playmaker. I get to the rim at will, set up my teammates, and make shots when needed. The game has slowed down for me this summer with the reads and the pass I’m making. I watch a lot of Jayson Tatum, I’m really trying to look at that in-between game.”

On3 caught up with four-star Jaylen Cross after a recent live viewing to talk about his recruitment.

Cross talks recruitment

“I have offers from Wake Forest, Mississippi State, Texas A&M, Charleston, and a couple of others,” Cross said.

Wake Forest: “My relationship is good with them. It’s like I’m talking with my high school coach when I talk with Coach (Steve) Forbes. They have a good camaraderie over there, and I feel like our relationship is growing.”

Mississippi State: “They like to get after it on defense, and they like to run on offense. Our relationship is newer, but talking with the coach this past bit, I feel like I’m starting to get a good feel for the program.”

Texas A&M: “Things are going a little slower with them than the other two right now. But we’ve been talking.”

College of Charleston: “That was my first bigger offer. They had a great season last year and play a great style of basketball. We built a relationship earlier in the year.”

Cross talks visits and other schools

”I don’t have anything set right now,” Cross said. “But, before school starts, I’ll probably start taking visits to some of the closer schools, like Wake Forest and NC State. Once school starts, I’m probably going to start looking at some of the further ones.

NC State is a school that hasn’t offered yet, but we’re talking a good bit. Clemson is another one, Marquette, Virginia Tech, and Tennessee as well. In fact, Tennessee was watching me a good bit through July, they might be close.”

Tennessee: “They’re a high-level program, a top 25-type team. I talked with them earlier this week. The Associate Head Coach Justin Gainey used to live here in Greensboro, so we have just been building that relationship up, and it is going well.”

At the end of the day…

“Really, the first thing is first, I want to make sure the situation is good for my mom, and everything is comfortable for her,” Cross said. “I want to make sure it is a family environment. Wherever I go to school at is not like I’m leaving home, just going over to a different house.

I’m a dynamic player and can really fit into any system, so there isn’t really one style of play that fits me best. I can play on the ball or off the ball, and that will be something we look at as we go through the process.
