Joel Klatt likes fit between Kansas City Chiefs, Adonai Mitchell
Fox Sports college football analyst Joel Klatt loves the potential fit of Adonai Mitchell and the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL Draft.
Mitchell’s been a popular mock selection to the Chiefs at the end of Thursday night’s first round. Why you ask? Well, it’s because Mitchell can fill that No. 1 wide receiver spot to add to a stacked Chiefs roster.
Heck, if this team is going to win a third straight Super Bowl, Mitchell could be a huge reason why, the way Klatt sees it.
“After everything that’s happened this offseason, the Chiefs knew that they wanted to solidify the wide receiver position,” Klatt said. “They needed to do that. I couldn’t believe that they won the Super Bowl with the wide receiver grip that they had. Hollywood Brown in the offseason, he’s a take the top off the defense type of guy. But I still think that they need more of a number one.
“Rashee Rice is not going to be available or probably not going to be available with everything going on with him in the offseason. So they need a number one, how about Adonai Mitchell from Texas?”
Looking at the tape, Klatt sees all the traits of a top receiver. And if the Chiefs need something, despite winning back-to-back Super Bowls, it’s a No. 1 pass catcher.
“I liked his game a lot,” Klatt said. “I think he can be a number one. Good story. He played a lot of different places in high school and then transferred, you know, obviously from Georgia to Texas. People don’t realize he transferred to Texas just to be around his daughter, won a couple of championships in Georgia, transferred … So that’s why he was at the University of Texas, really loved his game. I think he could blossom into a real true number one.”
This past season, Mitchell set career highs with the Longhorns. He had 55 catches, 845 yards, 11 touchdowns and 15.4 yards per catch. Overall, he had 93 catches, 1,405 yards, 18 touchdowns and 15.1 yards per catch.
As a member of the Class of 2021, Mitchel was a four-star recruit out of Antioch (Tenn.) Cane Ridge, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 8 overall prospect in the state, the No. 45 wide receiver in the class and the No. 302 overall prospect in the class.
