Jonathan Powell, a four-star shooting guard in the class of 2024, has narrowed his list of schools down to six: Clemson, Indiana, Michigan State, Ohio State, Virginia Tech, and Xavier.

The 6-foot-6, 180-pound junior out of Dayton (Ohio) Centerville has taken unofficial visits to Indiana, Ohio State, Xavier, Michigan State.

Along with his six finalists, Powell also received offers from Illinois, Texas A&M, Cincinnati, Notre Dame, Alabama, and others.

Powell discusses each of his final six schools, his first official visit date, and a timeline for a commitment in an exclusive interview here (On3+).

Powell discusses his game, what he’s looking for in a school

In a previous interview with On3, Jonathan Powell broke down his game as well as what he’s looking for in a future program.

“I’m a wing who can catch and shoot or put it on the floor,” he said. “I can sit down on defense and guard multiple positions; I got good length and can rebound. I like Devin Booker a lot, his midrange game, catch and shoot, ability to score off the dribble.”

Powell also knows what he’s looking for in a college.

“I’ll be looking for a school that can develop me and get me ready for the next level. When I’m there, I’ll be looking at the school that is showing me and my family the most love. I want to walk away from the school, thinking it’s my home away from home.”

Scouting Report

“Jonathan Powell is a lengthy and rangy off-guard. He is a natural ability to score from each level. He has a good handle in the half-court, where he gets to his spots. The jump shot has good balance and a consistent release. He needs to work on shot prep off the ball and tighten his angles and footwork. There is positional size, confidence, and nice athleticism. His father was a double-digit scorer at Eastern Michigan.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw

According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Powell ranks as the No. 93 overall prospect in the 2024 class. He’s also the nation’s No. 20 shooting guard and the No. 1 player in the state of Ohio.
