Kany Tchanda is the No. 116 player in the 2024 On3 Consensus. The 6-foot-10 power forward from Winston Salem (NC) Christian has opened the eyes of college coaches with his play this season.

“My game is very simple,” Tchanda told On3. “I pressure the ball, get rebounds, run the floor, and make my shots. I can shoot the three and pump-fake and drive to the rim. I’ve improved the most this season with my handle and my shooting. I still need to keep getting stronger. I watch a lot of Giannis (Antetokounmpo) a lot. He is fearless in the game, and that is really good for me to watch.”

On3 caught up with Kany Tchanda after a recent live viewing to talk about his recruitment.

Tchanda talks Providence

Providence is the only school I have taken an official visit to. I know they have a good tradition, and they’re winning a lot right now. Coach (Ed) Cooley is really cool with the players, and that is really big for me.

“The atmosphere for the game I went to was really good. I really liked it. The facilities were tough, and the food was great; we ate so much there, and it was good. They run a lot of stuff for Bryce Hopkins and Ed Crosswell, so their bigs are involved.

“My relationship with coach Cooley is good. He calls a lot and asks how I’m doing.”

Tchanda talks recruitment

“I would say I am hearing the most from Providence, Marquette, and SMU right now,” Tchanda said. “Providence and SMU have offered. Marquette has not, yet.”

Marquette: “They are telling me how well I would fit in with their system. They think I play like their big man, (Oso) Ighodaro, and he is having a good year. Watching them play, their bigs are pretty skilled, and they run a lot. I think I could fit in pretty well there. I have a good relationship with Shaka (Smart); we Facetime a lot.”

SMU: “I talk with them a lot on the phone; I want to get out to see them and their school. They love my ability to run and how I talk to my teammates on defense. They told me they need more of that on their team. Also, with my ability to shoot the ball.”

“I am hearing from LSU a good bit, too,” Tchanda said. “I think they, and Marquette, could be close to offering.”

In his words

“I will go to the school where I have the best relationship,” Tchanda said. “That is really, really important for me, having a good relationship with the coaches. Going somewhere that I trust. I want to play for a coach that I can trust to get on me if I am messing up and tell me if I am doing well. But someone who has my best interest in his heart.

“For me, I am going to run the floor and rebound and make my shots, so the style of play does not matter.
