When you win the Otis Taylor Award as the top receiver in the Kansas City metro area as a sophomore, teams are going to focus on you the next time you step on the field. That was the challenge Raymore (Mo.) Raymore-Peculiar junior receiver Jaidyn Doss faced this past Friday night against Rochurst.

Everywhere he went, so did two defenders trying to mark him.

The Friday night focus from opponents will be even more apparent for Doss this fall since he already has scholarship offers from Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Michigan, TCU, Missouri and Nebraska.

“It just puts pressure on me to step up and make a play,” said Doss, who finished with 46 receptions for 973 yards and eight touchdowns in 12 games in 2020.

Doss made those big plays again for Ray-Pec when it counted on Friday, including scooting into the end zone on a running play, to help the Panthers rally to beat Rockhurst.

Jaidyn Doss ready for Sept. 1

Jaidyn Doss has already been heavily courted by schools and taken unofficial visits to KU and Mizzou. He now will shift his focus in recruiting to fielding phone calls from recruiters on Sept. 1. That’s the first day college coaches can officially call prospects in the Class of 2023.

Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Michigan, Missouri, TCU and Nebraska have already offered him, but he said he’s hoping to hear from Oklahoma State, Wisconsin and Texas early on in September.

“I like the schools that I have so far,” Doss said. “Oklahoma State talked to me a while ago. Wisconsin did, too. And so did Texas. I hope they call me.”

Despite the local attention from schools like KU, K-State, Mizzou and Iowa State the do well in the Kansas City area, Doss said his favorite school is Oklahoma State. The Cowboys are high on his list, even though they have yet to offer a scholarship.

“They throw the ball a lot,” Doss said. “What I heard from all the others, is that they have really good coaches. All the others say the coach (Mike Gundy) is a really good coach.”

When asked about going to either KU, K-State or Mizzou, Jaidyn Doss said those schools aren’t high on his list at this point. A lot of folks have linked him with the Jayhawks because he has two former teammates in Lawrence (WR Luke Grimm and QB Conrad Hawley). Plus, Mizzou has made recruiting in Kansas City a priority Eliah Drinkwitz.

“I’m open about it all, but it just depends on how my mom feels about it,” Doss said. “I’m going to be looking mainly at family. I want a school with a family feeling.”

That’s why Doss said his mother is heavily involved in the recruiting process. He said he will lean on her when his phone starts to ring on Wednesday.

“I’m a momma’s baby,” Doss said. “I love my mom. I’m going to lean on her through all this. She’s going to guide me.”
