Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy four-star small forward Khani Rooths is down to seven schools. Moving forward, the 6-foot-8, 195-pound senior will consider Georgia, Florida State, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Mississippi State, and Virginia Tech

The Washington D.C. native has officially visited three of his finalists – Mississippi State, Virginia Tech, and Georgia. He’s scheduled to visit Florida State on September 22nd and Miami on September 28th. Rooths was scheduled to visit Michigan this weekend but says that trip will be rescheduled. He also says he will no longer be going on his previously planned trip to Maryland on September 15th.

Rooths says he doesn’t have a commitment date in mind yet, but is aiming for a November decision.

According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Rooths is the No. 25 overall prospect in the 2024 cycle. He’s also the No. 10 small forward prospect and the No. 5 player in Florida. The On3 Industry Ranking is a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Rooths talks finalists

Georgia: “Georgia has shown a lot of love and has a great plan for me. The play style matches a lot.”

Florida State: “Florida State is Big Guard U and that’s what I am. Coach has had plenty of pros in the league like me.”

Maryland: “Maryland is the home school and has shown love so why not be the hometown hero.”

Miami: “Miami is a great school and their play style fits mine a lot. Coach L is a great coach.”

Michigan: “Michigan is a great school and coach Juwan is a big reason they are in the running, especially having two wings drafted.”

Mississippi State: “Mississippi State has a great staff and shows a lot of love and has a good plan set.”

Virginia Tech: “Great coaching staff and has a great plan for me in terms of how I will play and fit perfectly.”

Scouting Report

“Khani Rooths has a great frame and great length with real positional size (measured 6-foot-8, or so). The ball skills are developing; however, he is getting more confident with the ball in his hands. His mid-post/mid-range game is getting more dangerous. He will knock down some spot threes, and he can get downhill off the bounce. Defensively, Rooths is really intriguing. He can slide his feet with guards at the point of attack, disrupt the passing lanes, and he has the length and size to switch down to guard forwards. As you project Rooths forward, the archetype and physical tools are clear. There is an upward trajectory that he has continued to take over the past 12 or so months.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw
