Khani Rooths jumped to No. 17 in the recent 2024 On3 150 ranking update. The 6-foot-8 wing started this year at nationally ranked Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy and has been a standout all summer with the New World program on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit.

“I’m playing efficiently,” Rooths told On3. “I’m affecting the game without the ball. The entirety of my game has continued to improve. I’m working, but I’m also playing against top competition. I know my own capabilities and what I am able to do, I’ve been getting a lot of reps in the gym, and it’s been showing out here.”

On3 caught up with Khani Rooths after a recent live viewing to talk about his recruitment.

Rooths talks visits

“I’ve taken official visits to Mississippi State and Georgia so far,” Rooths said.

Mississippi State: “The coaching staff stood out for me; I like Coach (Chris) Jans, and they have a great coaching staff. They know what they are doing, and they have a plan. Nothing down there really surprised me, they do a good job communicating with me during the recruitment. The campus was nice, and I liked the environment down there.”

Georgia: “The coaching staff there is great too. But the town, it’s all about the Bulldogs everywhere. That really stuck out to me. The coaches did a good job showing me they have a game plan of how they see me and how I fit in with what they do. They play with a fast tempo, and they like to capitalize in transition. They have some plays that get their wings coming off stuff and the freedom to make plays, not only for myself but for my team too. I can see myself fitting in there.”

Rooths talks recruitment

“I have an official visit set up with Virginia Tech and Michigan,” Rooths said.

Virginia Tech: “I’ll visit them on September 2. They have been recruiting me for a long time, and I’ve gotten to know their coaches and the coaching staff. They’re not far from home, and I want to learn as much as possible about them.”

Michigan: “I’ll visit them on September 9. They always tell me about how I’m improving and how I need to keep improving. They like what I’m doing and how I’m playing. The coaches let their players rock, give them a lot of freedom, and I like that. It’s always good to have a coaching staff that produces pros. They had two drafted this year, and that is what I’m coming in for.”

“All the schools that I’m hearing from have offered right now,” Rooths said.

In his words

“I want to probably commit before games start in my senior season,” Rooths said. “But I’m not sure of an exact date or anything right now.

“I want to go to a school that I know is going to develop me and prepare me for the NBA. I’ll look for a situation that is going to prepare me to win on and off the court. I like playing at a fast tempo and coming off the wing to make plays. I want to play in March Madness and win.”
