4-star Khani Rooths updates his recruitment

Khani Rooths is the No. 36 player in the 2024 On3 Industry Ranking. The 6-foot-8 forward plays his high school ball at Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy, which finished No. 5 in the final MaxPreps National Top 10. He will be with the New World program on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit this summer.
“I’m a defensive first player,” Rooths told On3. “On offense, I’m able to get my teammates involved but still get mine. I’ve been working on my jumper, so I’m not afraid to let it fly if the defender goes under the screen. I can post up a mismatch or take a bigger guy on the perimeter. I watch a lot of Jayson Tatum, how he can iso and use his mobility to get the mismatch, and Paul George, how he just lets the game flow at his size.”
On3 caught up with four-star Khani Rooths after a recent live viewing at the CBG Grassroots Tip-Off to talk recruiting.
Rooths talks recruitment
“I haven’t been on any official visits yet,” Rooths said. “I’ve gone on unofficial visits to Virginia Tech, Maryland, and Georgetown. I haven’t talked really with Georgetown and the new staff or really with Virginia Tech since Mike Jones left. I’m probably going to go visit Georgia in April.”
Maryland: “I got a good relationship with the staff; it’s like family for me over there. They’re trying to change the culture, they’re getting a lot of DMV recruits, and top guys go there. I’m looking to see what they do this next year.
“Mike Jones recruited me at Virginia Tech, so he really wants me to come down there to Maryland with him.”
Georgia: “They are recruiting me really hard, really consistently. I know if I go there, I could probably be the guy. I know coach (Mike) White hasn’t been able to recruit his players there yet, just put together a roster with portal guys. So I’ll be watching this season to see what they got.

“I’m not sure if that will be an official visit or unofficial; we are still discussing everything.”
“They haven’t all offered, but I’ve recently talked to Alabama and Miami,” Rooths said. “I’ve heard from Michigan and Michigan State, too.”
In his words
“I’m not sure of an exact time frame, but I really want to have a decision made by the start of my senior season,” Rooths said.
“I’m going to be looking for a school that will put me on the floor real early, and that will give me the freedom to play my game. I fit a lot of different styles of play. I’ll iso or have plays run for me, and I can defend all over the court. I don’t think location will matter much for me, but we haven’t gotten into much west coast stuff yet.”
