Kyle Greene, Jr. is the No. 81 ranked player in the 2024 On3 Consensus. The 6-foot-2 point guard is coming off a head-to-head matchup with 2023 Michigan signee George Washington, III, at the Flyin’ to the Hoop where he put up 25 points in the win.

“I’m a point guard,” Greene told On3. “I get to my spots and get my teammates involved and can still get to my shots. I’m playing the game at a better pace this season, getting by my man and making plays in the paint.”

On3 caught up with Kyle Greene, Jr. after a recent live viewing to talk about his visits and go in depth about his recruitment.

Greene talks visits

“I’ve only taken the one official visit to Georgetown,” Greene said. “I’ve gone on unofficals to South Carolina and Clemson. I’m talking to Tennessee, with Julian (Phillips) there, maybe a Pittsburgh and maybe like an Ole Miss.

Georgetown: “The relationship I built with Coach (Kevin) Nickelberry and Patrick Ewing himself has really stood out to me. My granddad lives up there, and that is another reason I wanted to get up there. Coach Nickelberry keeps it straight with me. It was a place I really wanted to see.”

Clemson: “Before the season, Coach (Brad) Brownell told me they were going to crack the top of the ACC this season. They’ve been doing that so far. Telling me the vision before it even happened, you know he knows what he is talking about. It’s a South Carolina school; it’s close to home. Coach Brownell isn’t holding his guards back either; they get their shots.”

South Carolina: “I love Coach Lamont’s (Paris) style of play. He is a laid-back coach, a laid-back person. He lets his guards play. I mean, Meechie (Johnson) had 26 against Kentucky; you can only do that if your coach lets you get shots up. Coach trusts his players to make good decisions, to make plays, and when they don’t, he’s going to take you out and tell you how to fix things, not just yell at you and tear you down.”

Ole Miss: “My relationship is good with them. I talk with Coach (Kermit) Davis almost every day. Every Sunday, he sends me a little prayer, so it’s almost like a family-type thing with them. They’ve shown a lot of love. I’m looking to get an official there; I just haven’t set it up yet.”

Pittsburgh: “Coach (Jeff) Capel is really sticking out to me. Him being a former Duke point guard and was formerly on the Duke staff, and he learned from and played for Coach K (Mike Krzyzewski). I was a big Duke fan growing up, so that is something only he can bring. Coach is a point guard too, so having him from a perspective of a guard makes my job easier and would help me get to the next level.”

Tennessee: “My old teammate Julian (Phillips) goes there. They offered me a long time ago. They let their guards get out and don’t really hold their guards back and let them run the show. The coaches expect a lot on the defensive end; they’re a top-five defense too. It’s a good school; they’re all about winning.”

“I’d like to schedule some official visits after the state playoffs, before AAU,” Greene said. “I’ll probably let AAU play through, see where things are at, and then start to narrow it down after July.”

In his words

“My relationship with the coaches will be important for me,” Greene said. “That relationship starts early and builds through the process. I want to play for a program where the players are welcoming. Where everyone wakes up and is ready to go, and the practices are healthy. Going on these visits, you can kind off see the ones who want to be there and who doesn’t.

“I’m looking for a school where I can get a good education. Really, a place that feels right, where the coaches are just right, and the playstyle is just right.”
